Summer camps are a wonderful place to work. Whether you are a university student, teacher or somebody who has the summer off, the holidays can feel very long and you need a fun, rewarding job to keep yourself entertained. Running fantastic activities, looking after kids and teens pastoral needs and creating memories was just what Emily, one of our new team members this year wanted...
Emily’s older brother has worked at our camps for the past three years and had told Emily about how great it was to work with campers from all over the world! We have spent some time catching up with her after the summer...
Originally, from Bristol, Emily currently lives in Reading where she studies English Language. When she is not studying linguistics, Emily can be found running around a football pitch as a keen footballer or playing the guitar. We expect a performance in the Talent Show next summer! Emily told us that Ed Sheeran has a memory stick filled with recordings of her songs – how impressive!
Emily is one of our lovely Dorm & Activity Leaders at our multi activity camp. There are so many wonderful activities on offer from Quad Biking to Arts & Crafts and Water Polo to Fitness. Lots of our staff team have their favourite activities. Emily loves all of our sports which include Cricket, Volleyball, Rounders and Basketball! She is also a big fan of Water Zorbing! We love them all, but are big fans of Zorbing. Our campers are always surprised to find out how challenging it is once they get on the water – it is not as easy as it looks!
Despite the large range of activities on offer, we are always open to new, fresh ideas. We asked Emily to think of a new idea and she suggested a new trip to an indoor trampolining park. Who would enjoy it more, our team or our campers?
Working at a summer camp is hard work. It can be very tiring and there is little time alone, but it is an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable experience. There are plenty of things that Emily misses about her summer at one of our residential camps, XUK Activity. She misses being around everybody (campers and team members) and having so much fun every day. There was not a single day during the summer where Emily did not laugh!
Summer camps are so beneficial to kids and teenagers, from growing in independence to trying out something new. We asked Emily why she thinks residential camps are somewhere kids should come next summer. “Kids should come to XUK next summer because there is such a great range of activities to take part in and they will meet great friends for life! It is also such a fun and exciting atmosphere with something different happening each day!"
Thank you so much for your time Emily, we look forward to seeing you soon!
