The History of XUK Summer Holiday Camps

1996

In January Richard runs the first Cross Keys Activities for 12 children and 5 staff

1997

Cross Keys runs during every school holiday and numbers are rising

1998

Cross Keys takes over Mini Minors, a local day camp with a similar philosophy. Richard's brother Lawrence joins as a Director

1999

Cross Keys and Mini Minors run in tandem. The press become interested in Richard's exciting approach to camps.

The brothers take over Experience UK (XUK), the provider of a day and residential camp

2000

All three camps now share a staff uniform and an integrated office system

2001

Record numbers mean that some weeks are sold out months in advance

2002

Launch of Mini Minors Swimming; Our website selected as one of UK's top children's sites

2003

Summer camps extended to a five-week stretch; Launch of our Birthday Parties service

2006

We appear in the Sunday Times as one of the top 10 camps in Britain!

2007

Launch of our new overnight XUK London Trip. Huge investment in adventure activity equipment

2008

Received an 'outstanding' grade from OFSTED at our residential camp, XUK

2009

Richard attends a conference and award ceremony to congratulate XUK on our outstanding OFSTED inspection

2009

Richard marries Emma on May 17th

2009

Our camps push ahead with technology by adding facebook & twitter pages as well as a blog site.

2009

Received an 'outstanding' grade from OFSTED at our day camp, Mini Minors.

2010

Increased capacity at XUK and introduced the new 'XUK day camp' for 7-13s at Brooklands

2010

Our first XUK video released.

2011

Introduced XUK English, our new summer language school. Also, for the first year, running a 6-week residential camp

2011

XUK runs for 6 weeks for the first time

2011

Our first XUK English video released.

2015

Mini Minors received another 'outstanding' grade from OFSTED

2016

XUK Excel is launched. XKeys Ltd is now running 3 residential camps

2017

XUK English & XUK Activity inspected by OFSTED and both pass with flying colours

2017

XUK Excel inspected by the BAC with wonderful feedback and a brand new certificate.

2018

XUK Activity moves to Abberley Hall School.

2019

Our day camp has another successful Ofsted inspection... We received an Outstanding!

2020/21

Covid-19 strikes! For the first time in over 20 years XUK are unable to run the residential camps!

2022

XUK Residential camps all move to Dauntsey's School in Wiltshire
